Purpose and Nature of Online Instruction

The purpose of Online Instruction at Clayton State University is to enhance the learning experience of students enrolled in traditional on-campus classes and to provide scheduling flexibility for students in the University’s immediate geographic service area. Although many services are offered online, students are not dependent on online offerings for the full array of services. With the exception of courses specifically offered for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN Completion Program, all online courses require that students be present on campus for orientation and at least two monitored examinations or assessments. Therefore all online students are in the service area and can take advantage of the on-campus services.

Admission, curriculum, and graduation requirements, as well as policies for grading, transcripts, and transfer of credit are the same for students in online courses as for students in on-campus courses. The online courses are a regular part of the departmental course offerings and are open to any student who meets the prerequisites for the course, the same prerequisites that are required for the on-campus sections of the course. The administrative oversight for the online courses is the same as for the on-campus sections of these courses, and services, and the administrative oversight for services offered online is the same as it is for these services offered on campus.
